Indian IT Professional Dies in Kansas Flash Flood

A 33-year-old software professional from Andhra Pradesh, Venkatesh Doppalapudi, died Saturday after his vehicle was swept away by flash floodwaters in Kansas. The Omaha-based resident, who held an H-1B visa, was driving toward Houston when severe storms submerged the road, leaving emergency responders unable to reach him against the current.

Sumner County emergency responders reported that witnesses observed the vehicle submerged near a bridge shortly after the storm deposited over 6 inches of rain in the region. Despite a multi-agency search operation involving police drones and the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Unit, the strength of the floodwaters prevented immediate rescue. His body was recovered the following day.

The Consulate General of India in Houston is currently coordinating with Kansas law enforcement to manage legal formalities and the repatriation of his remains to India. To assist with the transportation costs and funeral expenses, family representatives have initiated a GoFundMe campaign.
