The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister took to social media to call for a systemic overhaul of how temple donations are managed. She argued that the current model lacks the necessary oversight to prevent corruption, suggesting the adoption of stricter, more transparent protocols similar to those governing other major religious institutions across India. Her intervention arrives as a local court has already ordered 14-day judicial custody for the individuals currently under investigation for the alleged misappropriation of funds.
Beyond the criminal investigation, Mayawati warned against the weaponization of the scandal for partisan gain. As the ruling BJP and opposition factions continue to exchange accusations over the management of the site, the BSP leader’s appeal seeks to shift the focus toward institutional reform rather than political maneuvering.
