Raut leveled his accusations following the reported house arrest of Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai, suggesting the move was a calculated effort to silence dissent regarding the temple funds. The MP claimed that while Mahmud Ghaznavi plundered the Somnath Temple 17 times, BJP members have allegedly violated the sanctity of Ayodhya’s donation boxes 66 times in recent months.
To counter the perceived monopoly over the temple, Raut called for a collective pilgrimage featuring opposition heavyweights including Uddhav Thackeray, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, and Arvind Kejriwal. He maintains that the temple serves as a symbol of shared devotion rather than a political asset, insisting that the deity belongs to the entire nation rather than a single party.
