Karnataka Launches Voter Roll Revision Amid Political Friction

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has issued a formal call for residents to participate in the state’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, warning that failure to update registration details could result in the loss of voting rights during the upcoming verification cycle.

The government has deployed booth-level officials and established dedicated help desks to manage the process, which is open to all citizens, including new voters aged 18 and older who must submit Form Six. Shivakumar stated that the administration is committed to safeguarding the franchise, framing the exercise as a critical civic duty that requires active cooperation from the public to ensure accurate representation.

Behind the administrative effort, partisan tensions are escalating. The Congress party has publicly accused the BJP of attempting to use the revision process to disenfranchise economically vulnerable populations. In response to these claims, Congress leadership has mobilized party observers to monitor the enumeration and provide assistance to voters, aiming to counter potential irregularities while the formal verification of permanent residence certificates moves forward online.
